To be a competent cox you will need to have the skills below. As a club we provide annual training.

Practical
- Manoeuvre skiff to pick up a floating buoy on a line
- Drop and safely manoeuvre away from the buoy
- Complete turns on both hands, round buoys
- Steer a straight course.
- Complete 360 degree turn
- Complete emergency stop
- Launch and recover skiff
Written / Oral
- Identify means of accessing weather, tidal and safety information
- List procedure for safety brief prior to launch
- List “No Go” circumstances
- List safety kit required for normal rowing
- List kit required for SCRA Racing
- List correct launching and recovery procedures.
- Describe how to deploy the anchor. Description of anchor equipment.
- Describe Role of the Cox and Responsibilities
- Identify areas locally where it is safe/not safe to go and why.
- What are the club approved cox commands for moving astern and short turning to
port. - Name ten attributes, tasks and responsibilities of a cox
- Write out the name of your skiff in the phonetic alphabet.
