In the winter we row on Saturday and Sunday mornings usually for an hour. Throughout the spring, summer and autumn we add extra rows, either at the weekend or in the week.
The only times we cannot row are if the boat is being repaired, if the weather is bad, of the boat is away at a regatta or other event or if a competent cox isn’t available.
We currently use Whatsapp to book onto rows.
Types of Rows
Taster Rows
A taster row is your first step in deciding whether rowing is for you. We run sessions throughout the year and they are a chance to come out with an experienced crew for a short period of 20 minutes or so. You don’t need any experience, or to be fit – just come along and give it a go.
If you’d like to book onto a taster row contact Lisa Supper by emailing: southskyeandlochalshrowing@gmail.com
Social Rows
Social rows are a chance to take it easy and just enjoy being out on the water. Most are around an hour long. Sometimes we go for longer outings to explore further afield, usually stopping for a picnic or snack on the way. Suitable for all levels of ability.
Technique and Training
These are for anyone interested in developing their rowing technique and building up their fitness and stamina. Suitable for all levels of ability.
Race Training
Race training sessions are for anyone interested in taking part in regattas. The club usually attends five or six regattas in the summer, taking Saucy Mary around the country to catch up with other clubs and take part in races. Regattas are held at a weekend, either on one day or over two. Some are very serious, others are less so but whether you go as crew or as a supporter you’re sure to enjoy the experience.
At race training crews will be actively working on improving technique, fitness and stamina. You’ll learn to perform a racing start and racing buoy turns and practise sprints. A typical regatta race is 2km long.
Ad Hoc Rows
We actively encourage all our members to organise extra rows as long as there is a competent cox and those taking part know how to safely launch and stow the boat.
