🌅 Solstice Row 2026 – Cheers to the Longest Day! 🥂

Last night, members of South Skye and Lochalsh Coastal Rowing Club celebrated the summer solstice in the best way we know how – out on the water.

At 9pm, five rowers aboard Saucy Mary and three aboard The Big Lebowski slipped away from Kyleakin pier, passing beneath the Skye Bridge and into slightly choppy waters, as the longest day of the year slowly gave way to evening.

As the sun sank towards the horizon, we dropped anchor off a small beach in south Skye and took a moment to appreciate just how lucky we are to call this place home. Surrounded by stunning scenery, abundant wildlife (🦦 look closely for the wee otter on the rocks!) and the peace that only an evening on the water can bring, we raised our glasses of Nozecco in a toast to good company, good health and the extraordinary place we live in.

Sausage rolls and brownie bites helped fuel the celebrations, while conversations drifted as easily as the boats on the gentle swell.

One of the highlights of the evening was exchanging ‘waves’ with the local RNLI crew as they passed by on a shout – a reminder that while we’re out enjoying these waters, others are ready to help when needed.

The sunset didn’t disappoint, painting the sky in soft golds and pinks before darkness slowly settled across the water.

Sometimes rowing is simply about being out there, sharing a special moment with friends, surrounded by sea, mountains and sky.

A perfect solstice evening!
